Tom Peraic focuses his practice on education law. Mr. Peraic has represented charter schools concerning organizational and operational issues and he has worked with charter schools, charter school management organizations and charter school support associations in California, New York and Delaware. His experience includes drafting charter petitions, renewals and material revisions; supporting human resources, business office, and real estate functions; representing charter schools in litigation matters as well as managing the delivery of litigation services; and addressing special education issues. Mr. Peraic co-drafted one of California’s first statewide public benefit charter petitions and he helped with the formation of an out-of-geographic-area charter school SELPA. Mr. Peraic also has extensive litigation experience in civil and administrative forums, and with insurance and risk management issues.

Mr. Peraic served as General Counsel for Aspire Public Schools, a nationally recognized charter school management organization which operates 31 schools throughout California, most recently in his private practice and previously in an in-house capacity. Prior to that he was an attorney with Murphy, Pearson, Bradley & Feeney, a statewide civil litigation law firm with offices in San Francisco, Sacramento and Los Angeles, where his practice focused on the defense of attorneys in professional negligence and ethics matters, and which also included complex business and corporate litigation. Mr. Peraic also served in an “Of Counsel” capacity with Hallisey and Johnson, an AV-rated law firm located in San Francisco, where he defended teachers and paraprofessionals in dismissal and licensure proceedings under the jurisdiction of the Office of Administrative Hearings pursuant to the California Administrative Procedure Act.

Mr. Peraic was appointed by the State Board of Education to serve on the Board of Directors for the Advisory Commission on Special Education (ACSE), where he currently advises the California Department of Education concerning special education issues. Mr. Peraic has also served on the Board of Directors for the California Charter Schools Association Insurance JPA. He previously served on the Advisory Board for America’s Angel, a child abuse prevention non-profit organization located in Marin County. Mr. Peraic has also provided pro bono legal services to political refugees in landlord-tenant disputes under the auspices of the Bar Association of San Francisco Volunteer Legal Services Program and he co-founded the predecessor organization to the Barristers Club International Practice Section.
